A celebrated poet and dramatist, novelist and story-writer, artist and educationist, patriot, philosopher and thinker, and above all, a humanist, Rabindranath Tagore was the fit Indian to win a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Popularly acclaimed as 'Gurudev' and 'Kaviguru', he was the founder of the Visva-Bharati Univeity at Shantiniketan. An accomplished educational and social reformer, Tagore inspired the national movement and several national reconstruction schemes specially meant for the masses and village, and took active part in the Swadeshi Movement. Many of his schemes and ideas later formed part of Gandhiji's constructive programmes. Tagore's achievements in all these fields are remarkable and mark him out as one of the greatest sons of India and indeed, one who has a message for the entire humanity.
